We are members of the Revive & Thrive Team and along with other members we offer help for High Streets and Communities. As our prize for the 2014 Challenge winners we offered an evening’s presentation followed by two days of consultations for local traders. This is how we helped…

Starting with an evening presentation, retailers & business owners were shown the importance of creating the right first impression, with many examples of both good and bad window displays. This included many inspirational photos of exciting displays which got the traders thinking to see how these ideas could be transposed into their own businesses, whether a shop, café or beach hut!
The second half of the evening focused on just how to create a display by breaking it down into six simple steps. Followed by a demonstration of basic grouping skills using risers, merchandise, colour and backdrops, the audience understood the basic principles involved in creating a good, effective display and could take those principles back to their own shops to make improvements where necessary. Yet none of these ideas involved huge budgets – in fact very little outlay would be required to make simple improvements!
Fleetwood Beach Kiosk tweeted “Excellent presentation from Helen @ Made You Look tonight” and picked up several new ideas despite his business premises being so small and restricted!

The following two days were spent visiting retailers and businesses in Cleveleys, Poulton, Garstang and Fleetwood offering advice and suggestions as to how they could improve their visual appeal, or display their products in a different or more innovative way. With Christmas approaching, for many of them this is their busiest time of the year to attract those extra sales. Simple suggestions, for instance to include gifting in their displays is an effective way to increase sales. There were a wide range of businesses to visit from a Beach Hut, to a café, a wine shop with bar to gifts, crafts, and fashion. Many helpful suggestions were made with reference to the previous evening’s presentation, suppliers to use as well as photographs for reference. Leaving them with handwritten notes to work with, I look forward to seeing the changes and improvements in Wyre within the businesses who participated in our prize. We’ll keep you posted!
